Why Does My Ductless Mini-Split Leak Water in Monticello, FL?
Several things can cause your ductless mini-split to leak water. In most cases, the cause of the leak is something you can have repaired. Let’s look at some common reasons your ductless mini-split in Monticello, FL, might spring a leak.
Clog in the Drain Line
A part of your ductless mini-split’s cooling process involves removing moisture from the air. There’s a drain pan that collects the moisture, which empties into a drain line. Things like dirt, dust and other debris can create a blockage by building up in the drain line.
Moisture has nowhere to go when the drain line has a blockage, so water builds up in the drain pan and overflows. A leak might also occur if the drain line is too long or has too many bends. Keeping an eye on the line with regular maintenance is one way to prevent the line from developing a problem.
Incorrect Ductless HVAC Installation
The indoor unit of your mini-split needs to remain level for condensation to drain. If the unit tilts, the condensation won’t drain properly. This can result in water standing inside the unit and eventually leading to a leak.
Icy Evaporator Coil
An evaporator coil can freeze if the air filter is dirty or if the refrigerant is low. The melting ice can add excess water that overflows the drain pan. You can check for a dirty filter, but it’s safest to contact an HVAC service technician to check the refrigerant.
Drain Pan Damage
The drain pan collects condensation and sends it to the drain line. If the drain pan has a crack or other damage, water is likely to leak. When the drain pan has damage, get a replacement to solve this issue.
